Joey Galloway (WR) - 10/04/2009

According to ESPN2, Joey Galloway (NE) is inactive for this weeks game. Galloway was not listed on any injury reports this week and this is just released news.

9/18/2009

Anthony Gonzalez (WR) - 09/18/2009

Coach Jim Caldwell says the Colts receiver Anthony Gonzalez could miss as much as 2 months with his knee injury.

NFG - It now seems official that he will miss anywhere from 2 - 8 weeks, which isn't doing much to narrow it down for fantasy owners.

9/14/2009

Troy Polamalu (LB) - 09/14/2009

Troy Polamalu, the star safety for the Pittsburgh Steelers will miss 3 to 6 weeks with a knee injury.

NFG - Like Urlacher for the Bears, the injury to Polamalu is fantasy worthy news. The Steelers defense will have a large hole to fill until he returns.

Brian Urlacher (LB) - 09/14/2009

Chicago Bears star linebacker, Brian Urlacher dislocated his wrist during the first game against the Packers and will miss the rest of the season.

NFG - Usually I wouldn't bother too much with posting news on a defensive player, but Urlacher is too big of a piece of the Bears defense that many fantasy owners were depending on. With the loss of Urlacher, the Bears defense will be run on much more easily and they will not get quite as much pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

9/13/2009

Donovan McNabb (QB) - 09/13/2009

Philadelphia quarterback, Donovan McNabb left the game with a fractured rib. It is not definite yet, but word has it he may miss up to 2 to 4 weeks.

NFG - Likely if McNabb cannot go in week 2, Kevin Kolb will likely start, but come week 3 it will be interesting to see what the Eagles will do. This could make Michael Vick an interesting pickup if he is available.

Anthony Gonzalez (WR) - 09/13/2009

Indianapolis Colts receiver, Anthony Gonzalez left the game in the first quarter with a strained knee ligament. It is expected that he will miss 2 to 4 weeks with the injury.

NFG - This makes Pierre Garcon an interesting pickup as defenses will likely pay more attention to Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark at first.

9/09/2009

Brady Quinn (QB) - 09/09/2009

Quarterback, Brady Quinn has been named the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns to start the season.

NFG - It seems many thought it would be Derek Anderson as I have seen him picked up or drafted. If you are a Browns fan and want their QB, it is Brady Quinn you need to go with. If you are not a fan, I would not suggest drafting him as a viable fantasy option.

9/04/2009

Maurice Jones-Drew (RB) - 09/04/2009

Jones-Drew caught a pass on a slant and then was hit in the lower legs by a defensive back. X-Rays were negative and it looks like he just took a bone bruise to the lower leg but Jones-Drew may be slightly hampered when the season starts.

NFG - It is one of the fears the Jones-Drew critics have pointed out. His smaller frame might not be able to take a full load. I wouldn't worry about that however. This was more than likely a fluke thing. What I would worry about more is his attitude after the hit. Jones-Drew took exception to a low hit and wanted at the players who hit him. How many times have were heard announcers saying that the way to tackle a strong running back is to go low to the legs? Otherwards he will run through too many tackles. So for him to get upset that he was tackled low just doesnt make sense. I hope this is not the first signs of a diva attitude forming.

9/03/2009

Michael Vick (QB) - 09/03/2009

There are different stories on when NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell will rule on when Vick will be reinstated. It was first reported that he would rule on that by the 6th week but now it is believed it may be earlier. Some believe the decision is expected to be made by the Saturday, 6:00 PM deadline to trim rosters down to 53 players. However ESPN has also reported that Michael Vick will be reinstated and made eligible for the Philadelphia Eagles Home Opener in week-3.

NFG - I can almost see Vick being eligible for the first week of the season. Goodell has all along said that he is not holding off on the reinstatement as any punishment but simply to be sure they don't rush him back before he is NFL ready and hurt the chances of Vick's return being successful. So if the Eagles and Vick both believe he is ready, and Goodell does not reinstate him, then it would turn into a discipline action. Worse, the discipline would hurt both Vick and the Eagles for they would have to have him on their roster and play the first games a man short.

8/30/2009

Matt Cassel (QB) - 08/30/2009

Kansas City Chief's quarterback, Matt Cassel left Saturdays preseason game with a strained MCL and is expected to miss 2 to 4 weeks.

NFG - I do not have Cassel very high on my player rankings and hardly consider this fantasy worthy news. However, there are likely some who are drafting him and they need to know that he may miss a week or two in the regular season.

Steve Smith (WR) - 08/30/2009

Carolina Panthers receiver, Steve Smith suited up and played in the preseason game just two weeks after hurting his shoulder. He showed no ill effects of the injury.

NFG - Smith is ine of the top receivers in Fantasy Football once again and you can now feel safe drafting him.

8/28/2009

Brandon Marshall (WR) - 08/28/2009

Denver receiver, Brandon Marshall was suspend from the team for unspecified “detrimental” conduct. At this time there is no word on how long the suspension will be for.

NFG - Marshall just keeps dropping down my cheat sheet. He has demanded a trade, which he does not seem likely to get, he has not learned the Broncos new playbook, which hurts his value immensely, he has been a constant problem in practices as well. Marshall has swatted balls thrown to him rather than catch them, punted a ball away rather than hand it to the ball boy, spent time with the scout team rather than the regular team and has walked around the field while his teammates were running. If he plays this season, it is very likely he will not come close to his previous seasons numbers. The only way he can move back up the rankings now is if they trade him.

8/26/2009

Mark Sanchez (QB) - 08/26/2009

The New York Jets have named rookie quarterback, Mark Sanchez their starter for the regular season.

NFG - Though Sanchez is now the official starter, he is still not worth a true fantasy draft consideration. He is a rookie on a team without top receivers. He will likely never put up good fantasy numbers. Even in Keeper leagues he is not worth consideration because even if he beats all odds and plays great, it wont be good enough to make him a keeper over top all of the top running backs, receivers and the star quarterbacks that are already considered keeper worthy.

Donnie Avery (WR) - 08/25/2009

Donnie Avery returned to practice with the scout team and caught two touchdown passes. According to sources, he looked quick and ran well.

NFG - Originally Avery was expected to miss up to 4 weeks. After just a little more than two weeks, he is looking healthy. All expectations are that he will play in the Rams first regular season game.

Nate Washington (WR) - 08/25/2009

Titans receiver, Nate Washington had an MRI and found there is not major damage on his hamstring. Supposedly he injured the hamstring muscle. He will miss the rest of the preseason but is planning on being ready to play by week-1.

NFG - Washington is expected to be Tennessee's top receiver and is worth drafting. Just draft him expecting he may miss the first week if it lingers. You can also expect a week or two before he gets up to speed and works out his timing with Kerry Collins again.

8/18/2009

Chaz Schilens (WR) - 08/18/2009

Chaz Schillens, who is expected to be one of the top two receivers in Oakland this season broke a bone in his foot during practice. Oakland's coach did not say how long Chaz is expected to be out.

NFG - Bones usually take 4 to 6 weeks to heal, so expect Schillens to miss at least one or two weeks of the regular season. Then he may need a week or two to catch up to speed again. This will also hinder his development as he is a rookie. Chaz Schillens was not a high draft pick as it was. Dont take him until the later rounds if you still want him.

Braylon Edwards (WR) - 08/18/2009

Edwards dropped a nicely thrown pass in the end-zone in the Browns preseason game last week. He was quoted as saying that getting in extra work after practice wouldn't help him if he could perform at the same level in games.

NFG - This remark makes me a little more wary of drafting Edwards. It is the remark of one who just does not want to put in the extra effort to better himself. More practice makes anyone better. Lack of practice keeps players from getting better, which seems to be the road Edwards intends to take.

Brett Favre (QB) - 08/18/2009

Brett Favre is now practicing with the Minnesota Vikings and is expected to start this Friday's preseason game.

NFG - First he retires then he returns, then he retires and then he returns. So now Favre plays for the Vikings.... for how long? This will have several effects on fantasy football. Minnesota's receivers should be jumping for joy because their fantasy value just jumped a couple notches. Adrian Peterson should be glad because defenses will have to respect the pass more. Peterson may also be effected negatively because in the red zone, Favre will get the call to throw more touchdowns, taking scoring chances away from Adrian. However, don't expect Favre to light things up. He is not as good as he once was. He will be much better than Sage would have been but I do not expect him to be a top Quarterback in fantasy.

8/17/2009

Chaz Schilens (WR) - 08/16/2009

Yes he is a rookie. Yes he is unproven. Yes, Chaz Schilens is listed as the top receiver on the Oakland Raiders depth chart.

NFG - He may be listed as the top receiver right now, but I have to believe that once Javon Walker is healthy, he may move ahead of Schilens. Yet, even if that happens, Schilens is still a good late round value if he is the second receiver on the team.

8/16/2009

Darren McFadden (RB) - 08/16/2009

For the Oakland Raiders, it looks as if Darren McFadden may be gaining a lead on getting the starting running back roll.

NFG - The coaches love Justin Fargas, but they also know that McFadden is too talented to keep down. I would expect both running backs to get a lot of carries at this time.
