The Ego of Brett Favre

Once again Brett Favre is holding another NFL team hostage and once again the NFL team is tossing its dignity out a window to drop to its knees and bow before him.

3,867 yards, 31 TDs, 23 ITs, and a 63% Pass Completion. These are very good numbers. They may be near great numbers. They are not however, MVP type of numbers. In fact, Brett Favre has been the MVP three times. He has had more than 3,867 yards 11 times, more than 31 TD's six times, less than 23 IT's fourteen times, and better than 63% six times. If other seasons when Favre had better years, why was he not good enough for MVP in those other years?

In that same season, Barry Sanders had 2,053 yards, 14 total TD's and only lost 2 fumbles. The TD's and fumbles are good but the 2,053 yards rushing is a phenomenal season for a running back. Yet Sanders had to share that MVP with Brett Favre, not because it was the right thing to do for two players who had equally great seasons, but because it was necessary to appease the pet superstar of the NFL. In 1997 it became the standard way of the NFL world to bow down to the greatness of Brett Favre and it has never stopped.

It has been 4 or 5 seasons in a row now that Brett Favre would retire, then not retire or not be able to decide if he wanted to retire or not. He cares nothing about creating a better relationship and continuity with his teammates. He cares nothing for allowing the team to prepare one way or the other like they would if they got an upfront decision. He care nothing about the millions of fans who would want to know if he is playing. He cares nothing at all about the millions of Fantasy Football fans who would like to know how to set up their quarterback rankings. No, all Brett Favre cares about is Brett Favre. Who knows? Maybe if he loved himself just a little more, he would have shown up to camp earlier and worked with players in one way or another and just maybe then, he would have had better continuity with his receiver last season and not throw that last interception in the play-off game.

Yet the Vikings do not have enough dignity to tell Favre to either join the team or retire. They will fall to their knees and kiss his holy feet while waiting for him to decide what he wants to do as he always does at this time of the year.

Brett Favre, at one point, was one of the most loved players in all of the NFL. One of the most loved of all time. Every season there are more and more who grow sick of his pansy-ass ways of not being man enough to make a decision for the better of his team, his teammates and his fans. When will he finally get it over with? Before or after his status falls below that of Michael Vick? He may never fall that far, but it is a sad thing that I am beginning to have more respect for Terrell Owens than for Brett Favre.

Brett Favre (QB) - 08/18/2009

Brett Favre is now practicing with the Minnesota Vikings and is expected to start this Friday's preseason game.

NFG - First he retires then he returns, then he retires and then he returns. So now Favre plays for the Vikings.... for how long? This will have several effects on fantasy football. Minnesota's receivers should be jumping for joy because their fantasy value just jumped a couple notches. Adrian Peterson should be glad because defenses will have to respect the pass more. Peterson may also be effected negatively because in the red zone, Favre will get the call to throw more touchdowns, taking scoring chances away from Adrian. However, don't expect Favre to light things up. He is not as good as he once was. He will be much better than Sage would have been but I do not expect him to be a top Quarterback in fantasy.

Brett Favre Not Coming Back... Again!

I can understand an aging superstar desiring the lime light. I can see why a retired player might miss the game and want to return to the NFL. What I don't understand is how a player can make a living at retiring and not retiring each and every year. Brett Favre seems intent on doing just that.

Favre ended his time in Green Bay, making it a habit to keep the Packers held hostage to whether he would come back for another year or not. Every year he said he was going to retire and then came back for one more season. Finally he actually retired. Then he wanted to come back and Green Bay was smart enough to tell the legend... "No Thanks! We have our guy now."

Brett Favre then signed with the New York Jets, started his first season off well then fell apart. Then he retired again. After shoulder surgery, Brett Favre started wanting to come back again. This time he wanted to play for Minnesota.

Minnesota? After spending most of his career in Green Bay and becoming a legend in the city, he wants to play for their rival? Some how ... "I will show you for not taking me back" ... screams from that choice. It shouted that he just wanted to take a shot at his old team. It spelled out to the world how immature he really is!

Mr.Favre, I will say this as respectfully as I can. "You are old and should stay retired for good this time. As much as the world had a love affair with you, you were overrated anyway!"

Yes I said that! Over rated! Sure he threw for a lot of yards and a bunch of touchdowns every year. He was also one of the leaders for interceptions quite often. Yes Favre had a great arm and had superb accuracy. He also made a lot of stupid passes as well.

Do not get me wrong. Brett Favre was a great quarterback! I am not saying he wasn't great, because he was. However, he was far from the best and I would not rank him in the top ten of all time when so many treat him like he is the best. The NFL had a love affair with him, turning him into the NFL's pet. In 1997 he did not deserve to share the MVP with Barry Sanders. He had a great year for a QB, but Sanders year was phenomenal for a RB. But the NFL and the Media could not handle giving it to someone else that year.

Now Brett Favre has shown how much he sees life as "All about him!" If he did not want to put his body through the grind of a 19th season, why did he keep the Vikings waiting while he worked out to get his shoulder ready? The answer is simple. If he didn't, he would not have been in the spot light this season.

For all the legend status Brett Favre has achieved, he will not be remembered by many as a great quarterback. He will be remembered as the selfish star who felt a need to hold teams as hostage while he kept himself in the spotlight. Please Mr. Favre, do us all a favor. Don't entertain thoughts of another comeback. We really don't want to see you come out using a walker ten years from now saying you want to play again.

Brett Favre (QB) - 07/28/2009

Minnesota Vikings coach, Brad Childress, has stated that Brett Favre will not be coming back to the NFL and playing for the Vikings. Childress said that Favre has decided that he did not want to put his body through the grind of a 19th season in the NFL.

NFG - Simply put.... DONT DRAFT HIM!

Brett Favre (QB) - 07/15/2009

Brett Favre has set a deadline of July 30th to let the Minnesota Vikings know if he will play for them in 2009.

NFG - Favre had been working out with the Oak Grove High School football team three days a week. He has now added Sunday as well. Time will only tell if he will be ready in time but it wont be for lack of trying if he is not.

Brett Favre (QB) - 07/05/2009

Dr. James Andrews, who recently performed surgery on Brett Favre’s partially torn bicep tendon, says Favre wants to play this year. “He wants to play and he wants to play for the Minnesota Vikings. He wants to end his career on a high note and I hope he can. He’s a tough guy, a great guy. I’m pulling for him. He wants to play. He just wants to make sure his shoulder and arm are healthy enough.”

NFG - If Favre plays for Minnesota this season, it could be bad for Adrian Peterson fans. Favre is to end his career on a high note, he will want to pass for touchdowns. Peterson does not get a lot of passes and he ranges 10 to 12 TD's a season. It would hurt his fantasy value to lose some of those TD's to Brett Favre.

Brett Favre (QB) - 06/16/2009

On Monday night’s episode of “Joe Buck Live” Favre was asked if he will play in 2009, Favre’s answer was, “Maybe.” He also said that he had surgery two and a half weeks ago and will need four to six weeks to recover.

NFG- Favre knows the Vikings offense very well and if his wrist heals well, he may still play in 2009. Even if that is expected, he is not worth a high draft pick. If you want him on your fantasy football team, take him late and let him ride your bench.
