Why NFL Fantasy Guide?

WE ARE SORRY: Due to the overwhelming time it takes to keep up with Fantasy Stats, I am no longer creating up to date draft lists and such on this blog.

However, I would like to remind you that the articles are for the most part still good advice to keep to heart when playing Fantasy Football.

Team Defense Rankings (NFG Rankings) - 07/06/2009

The first thing to consider here is that it is almost impossible to do a good job of ranking Fantasy Defenses. Too many factors come into play. A top defense in one year can draft to make the defense even better, only to be bad because the offense couldn't’t keep them off the field to rest. If one player, any player, of the eleven on a defense has a bad season, it can have a domino effect.

Second thing to consider is the fact I would advise against taking any defense early. I cannot tell you how often top defenses in a season were picked up from waivers. Sure you can take Pittsburgh and be guaranteed a good defense, but to get them you will have to take them early and at the expense of not taking a player who can be a great player. I strongly advise waiting on defenses until double digit rounds at the very earliest. Odds are there will be a few defenses that surprise the fantasy world that you can pick up from waivers.

I looked over some other rankings. I looked at what they ranked in 2008. I checked on if they drafted in a way that would help the defense out. These are my Fantasy Defense Rankings.

  1. How come everyone is putting eagles sooooo high, they lost Dawkins-minus, they now have lost Stewart Bradley (there best linebacker)- Minus, and there only good players are asante samuel and trent cole, darren howard is aslo good but def not better then most. How on earth do they get in front of Ravens, Ed reed, ray lewis, haloti nagta, terrell suggs, yeah thats G.

  2. Sorry, I did not see there was a comment until now... I will take a closer look in case I missed something. One reason I believe is that the Eagles offense is much better than Ravens so the Eagles defense does not spend as much time on the field. The more time on the field, the more chances other teams have to score. The Baltimore offense is not one to excite me that they will help rest the defense.

  3. I have looked a little closer and I admit, I do agree with you. I dont think their defense will be as bad as you seem to think, but I have moved them down a couple places, moving both the Ravens and the Titans above the Eagles. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
